Case study: From Glossop to Milan for carpentry company

By Claire Gamble

Why PR is about more than media coverage and award wins

Jack Badger is a carpentry and masonry business based in the heart of the Peak District. The team uses traditional carpentry tools and techniques to design and create beautiful and sustainable fittings, furniture and architectural features.

We started working with the business to generate media coverage, write website content and award entries, and advise on social media. After a few months of activity, an exciting opportunity presented itself to Jack Badger.

PR is just the start – it’s what you do afterwards that counts

Jack Badger won the Judges’ Special Awards in the Wood Awards for its beautiful hand-carved oak doors, which the team made for a property in York.  Following the media relations to promote the award win, one of the editors at leading design magazine Wallpaper* learnt about the business. During a conversation, she invited Jack Badger to take part in a project for its Handmade exhibition, which is held at the internationally acclaimed Salone del Mobile show in Milan.

The magazine partnered the carpentry company with award-winning designer Sally Mackereth and sponsors Royal Salute to create a unique, circular bar made out of ancient fossilised wood. After its showcase in Milan, the bar has since been used at a number of high profile, international events.  You can read more about the project on the Wallpaper* website.

How PR can result in new opportunities for businesses

The PR for Jack Badger – news stories, award wins, media relations – was just the beginning of the journey. The activity led to a new and exciting project for the company, and this project helped to open even more doors for the business.

The team has been invited to and attended a number of exclusive events, won and worked on several new commissions, and presented to top UK architects. Publications such as World of Interiors, Period Living and Derbyshire Life have featured the team and their work too. The team even landed an opportunity with a documentary on Channel 4, reaching millions of viewers.

PR case study: How PR can build new relationships and create business opportunities

Our work with Jack Badger is a great example of how PR can – and should – be about so much more than generating media coverage and winning awards. PR can help businesses form new relationships and push themselves further. And, thanks to the skill, hard work and enthusiasm of its managing director and team, Jack Badger has taken full advantage of the opportunities that have followed.

“Claire’s in-depth knowledge of the industry has given us a big advantage to us as a small company, and allows us to reach a much wider audience than would be possible without her support.”
