On Thursday 5 July 2018, we visited The Meadows Community Centre in Lewisham to celebrate a number of young people completing a 12 week construction training programme.
A joint initiative with our client Saint-Gobain UK & Ireland and the charity Barnardo’s, the scheme is designed to help young care leavers prepare for a future career in construction. Lessons and training took part in the centre and included plastering techniques, health and safety, as well as as English and Maths lessons. The care leavers were also helped to get their CSCS cards so they can work on site.
Several of the Saint-Gobain brands supported the project, including Jewson, British Gypsum, Isover, Ecophon, Minster, Saint-Gobain Glass and Weber. Support was also provided by Barking & Dagenham College, Lewisham Construction Hub, and Phoenix Housing.
Congratulations to everyone involved and looking forward to seeing the initiative grow and develop over the years to help inspire more young people into construction.
