Taking the Temperature

Unhooked worked with City Plumbing to develop and carry out a data-backed thought leadership campaign, Taking the Temperature.

City Plumbing

The brief

Construction PR agency Unhooked worked with City Plumbing to strengthen its position as an advocate for plumbers and heating installers, showing that the merchant goes beyond being just a supplier by understanding and supporting the industry.

The challenge was to build credibility, uncover and share relevant insights that would resonate with customers and the wider industry, and create a campaign that would deliver PR value over time.

Turning industry insight into PR impact

Our solution

We developed Taking the Temperature – a research-led thought leadership campaign designed to examine the challenges, behaviours and opportunities shaping the plumbing and heating sector.

At the heart of the campaign was a bespoke survey of 500 plumbers and heating installers, which looked at everything from workload and future outlook to sustainability and wellbeing.

Using the data, we built a multi-layered PR campaign designed to maximise the results:

  • Drafted the Taking the Temperature industry report packed with original insights and messaging around how City Plumbing was supporting the industry, which was designed by the social media agency On the Tools
  • Developed and delivered bespoke presentations for several key journalists at The Installer Show 2025
  • Created multiple news angles to sustain media coverage over time, covering topics such as heat pump training, bathroom renovations, digital tools, work-life balance, and apprenticeships
  • Crafted tailored narratives for different trade media audiences
  • Integrated findings into wider ongoing PR activity and thought leadership features to extend longevity
Taking the Temperature

The results

The campaign delivered strong, measurable impact across awareness, credibility and engagement:
