Homeware and interiors case study: PR strategy and planning for new ecommerce business
The Gifted Few is a homeware and interiors ecommerce business, which specialises in vintage lighting, contemporary home accessories and gifts.
Initially, the business sold vintage and industrial lightbulbs and furniture on its eBay store, but after a period of growth it was time to develop its own ecommerce website.
The couple behind the business, Sarah and Aaron, brought us on board to develop a PR and communications strategy to help them launch their new website.
We started off with a strategy, planning and training session. Through asking a series of questions and carrying out a number of exercises, we got to the heart of the brand. From this, we were able to build a PR and communications strategy that was based around their values, develop their key messages, and plan out the activity which would help them target and engage with their customers.
Media relations – national, home interest and broadcast media
After developing a strategy and plan, we worked with The Gifted Few on a series of PR and communications tactics. These included a launch press release, product placements, gift guides, advice articles, reactive comments, in-depth features and blog posts. As well as increasing brand awareness, the activity helped to build links and generate content for the website to boost SEO.
The Gifted Few was soon featured in a number of national and consumer media outlets, including the Daily Telegraph, Huffington Post, Your Home, Real Homes, Country & Living, and Homes & Antiques.
A particular highlight was securing an opportunity to get some of their products into the X Factor house – broadcast on ITV for millions of people to see.
“Working with Claire was an absolute pleasure. She gave us a really detailed overview of what PR is and how it can help a small business like The Gifted Few and then helped us develop a strategy that helped us to achieve our goals in terms of getting our brand recognised.
“Very quickly we were being featured in the national press and our products were being seen by millions on national TV. Claire has a superb eye for detail and her copywriting skills, which she employed on both our blog and social media channels, are second to none. We can’t recommend her services highly enough.”
