Unhooked MD completes AI Empower programme

It’s the end of an AI era – well, the end of a four-month AI Empower course, which Unhooked Communications MD Claire Gamble has now completed.

One of the great advantages of being a Manchester PR agency is having access to such a thriving and collaborative business community – including the incredible support offered by Turing Innovation Catalyst (TIC).

Unhooked Communications MD, Claire Gamble, has now completed the AI Empower course, part of a brand-new pilot programme from TIC designed for SMEs across Greater Manchester.

TIC, based at the University of Manchester, is dedicated to growing the region’s AI ecosystem. Since launching in 2023, they have supported more than 170 AI innovators and companies and helped over 1,000 people develop their skills through programmes and funded support. This pilot, backed by Innovate UK and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) through the Greater Manchester Innovation Accelerator, brought together a select group of local SMEs to explore how AI can transform operations, boost productivity, and create a competitive edge.

Because this was the first time the course had run, there was a strong emphasis on collaboration. We were encouraged to share feedback and help shape how future programmes will work. With limited spaces, it felt like a very tailored and supportive experience – the TIC team were genuinely engaged and excited about working closely with businesses ready to explore AI.

Over three months, the AI Empower Pilot Programme covered:

  • Moving from problems to solutions

  • Selecting the right tools and technology

  • Demystifying AI performance and costs

  • Overcoming data and pilot challenges

This has been an inspiring experience, and it is encouraging to see such focused support for SMEs in Greater Manchester as we all navigate the opportunities AI presents.

In particular, it’s helped us explore the role of AI in PR, with lots of ideas and practical learnings around how we can use AI to support  PR strategy development and more impactful PR evaluation through to enhancing data-driven PR campaigns.
