Unhooked Communications worked with Marshalls on a thought leadership PR campaign, Creating Safer Spaces.

The brief

Hard landscaping specialist Marshalls wanted to run a campaign to position it as a design thought leader, instigating discussion around key issues that impact or influence target audiences, as well as inspire collaborative working across the industry to improve public spaces.

In particular, it wanted to explore how safety could be considered about other design and policy focus, such as sustainability.

As a result, Marshalls developed ‘Creating Safer Spaces’ to provide a platform for industry discussion to explore how traditional design principes can be transformed to improve public spaces and worked with Unhooked to promote the campaign.

Our solution

Marshalls carried out a survey to discover people’s perceptions and behaviours around safety in public spaces. The findings, along with recommended design pillars, were presented in a whitepaper and discussed at a roundtable in association with The Architects’ Journal

Partnerships were developed with the Landscape Institute and the Neighbourhood Watch, with spokespeople providing additional comments around safety in residential areas

Unhooked supported the campaign by developing multiple news stories and thought leadership articles, including a launch press release, reactive comments in response to the Autumn Statement, CPD launch press release and several thought leadership articles in trade media, as well as content for the Marshalls’ website

Media highlights included Yahoo, AOL, Building Design, The AJ, Specification, ABC&D, Architects Datafile, Pro Landscaper, Local Authority Building & Maintenance, Future Constructor & Architect, Public Sector Build Journal and more.
